This game is true to the original Mario games with much better 2d graphics. The gameplay is excellent like in all past games. You would swear this was an official Nintendo release. The only drawback is the newer version, when downloaded, go to the website of the game designer, meaning you have to be online everytime you play & on their site. I recommend you download an older version (2.0 - 2.5) of the game like I did, if this is a problem for you.

I was waiting for some really nice Mario Clone with some new stuff and new content. The game seems to be quite nice, even the gameplay does what it is meant to do. Only thing is that they haven't quite succeeded in capturing the "mario element" as far as the gameplay goes. I just felt like playing good old Mario on my 8-bit with a decent Nintendo joypad instead of this computer clone.
(Maybe I should get a joypad on the computer then...)

The music seems to be a nice remake of the good old classic and it brought a wide smile on my face. I even turned the speaker up!

The sounds are pretty basic and so... nothing to say about them really. Good but you won't be dazzled.

About the levels - to tell the truth I didn't actually finish the game but the first two levels were remakes of their older sisters and brothers, except for some minor changes in the architecture. There was no ability to go into the warp-room in the first sewer-level for there was no warp-room, nor a roof to walk on. It was fun discovering it in the original, bouncing off the level "up border" suddenly and finding yourself walking in a place with just your legs visible. Oh well.. maybe they wanted to make this version harder by taking out the warp-room. Don't know about the other warp-rooms.

All in all, if you're a die-hard Mario Fan, play this game. If not or if you've not played the original, try this one. I liked it but I didn't have the energy to play past the first two levels. And I'm a pretty die-hard-gamer. (Spending HOURS on end with a good game.. even 24/7 if it wasn't for that thing called 'life' which keeps interrupting me).

6/10 points.
