Kumoon is a distinctly unique 3D puzzle game. Being distinctly unique and being decent are two totally separate concepts, so let’s see if this one happens to be both. You control of a small yellow chick with a gun. Knock all the blocks to the ground by making the least direct amount of contact possible, whether it be deflecting your bullets of a wall or pushing blocks into one another (the more direct contact you make, the more points you lose – score too much in the negative and you fail).
Graphically, the 3D is not overly complex. It is pleasant to look at but not especially eye-candy-ish. Whether it could have been enhanced with prettier visuals is a matter of taste. It doesn’t bother me personally – it just means there is less crap to distract me, while playing the game.
The sound is minimal – no in-game music and a few measly sounds. It does feel a little odd without a tune playing in the background but it doesn’t seem to hurt the game in particular. It just seems so quiet at times, unless you’re blasting away with your gun.
Fortunately, game is fun. The physics engine is spot on and the gameplay has such an open nature (in the respect that you do not have to play the levels in a particular style - you can try to deflect your bullets off walls or concentrate push them into each other and toppling them over), it can be played as seriously or leisurely as you would like. There is no time limit on the levels so you can mess around with the physics for as long as you want. A time limit may have been a good thing to add an extra element of challenge to the game because the game is far from difficult to wade through and most players will find themselves progressing through the levels at a rather quick rate.
While the game may not look retro, it does happen to have that great creative spirit that makes some of the retro stuff so damn fun. It is a little rough on polish but still well worth some of your time.
